Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in leadership and management across a range of enterprise and industry contexts. Individuals at this level display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others. They use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements. They may plan, design, apply and evaluate solutions to unpredictable problems, and identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources.

To apply, you must be 18 years old or older. English proficiency is recommended, with an IELTS score of at least 5.0 (overall). While the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) test is not required to apply, taking it’s recommended to ensure you receive appropriate academic support throughout the course.

Liberty Institute of Health and Education recommends that candidate have previously completed Certificate IV in Leadership and Management / year 12, or a similar qualification or can demonstrate equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.

To successfully fulfill course assessment requirements, certain assessment tasks may necessitate the involvement of additional individuals for role-playing purposes. Students will be provided with the opportunity to undertake these role-play simulations at Liberty Institute of Health and Education’s campus, where RTO personnel and trainers will assume the roles of characters in these simulations. In cases where students are unable to complete these tasks on campus, it is incumbent upon them to arrange for individuals to participate in the role-play simulations.

To earn your Diploma of Leadership and Management, you’ll need to complete 12 units. These units consist of 6 core units that everyone takes, and 6 elective units.

Core Units:

  1. BSBCMM511 – Communicate with influence
  2. BSBCRT511 – Develop critical thinking in others
  3. BSBLDR523 – Lead and manage effective workplace relationships
  4. BSBPEF502 – Develop and use emotional intelligence
  5. BSBTWK502 – Manage team effectiveness
  6. BSBOPS502 – Manage business operational plans

Elective Units:

  1. BSBWHS521 – Ensure a safe workplace for a work area
  2. BSBLDR522 – Manage people performance
  3. BSBOPS504 – Manage business risk
  4. BSBPEF501 – Manage personal and professional development
  5. BSBSTR502 – Facilitate continuous improvement
  6. BSBSUS511 – Develop workplace policies

Face to face training is delivered in the classroom settings with some research activities and workplace projects. Assessment is conducted through assignments and simulated workplace tasks/projects. Workplace projects are conducted by the students as part of the assessment tasks.

Class sessions will involve trainer lead presentation and discussion, brainstorming group activities, learning activities and group discussion, including role-plays and presentations. Students will learn through activities and implement their learning at the workplace. These sessions will also provide an opportunity for students to ask questions, discuss ideas and clarify any concepts.

Graduates of the training program will be awarded with a nationally recognized qualification in Diploma of Leadership and Management. Graduates may be able to continue further studies in leadership and management. Learners may be able to get credit transfer in qualifications where units from this qualification are part of the qualification learner intends to enroll with another RTO

This program is delivered under competency-based training which means instead of grading or marks, students are required to demonstrate all the criteria for each unit of competency and students are marked “Competent” or “Not yet competent”.

Recognition of prior learning for this course is available through RPL Kits. In this case, learners will be asked to provide evidence of their prior learning relating to the course. They will be interviewed and will be assessed through their work history and prior qualifications / experience relevant to the industry, instead of taking formal training and assessment stream of the course.

Learners may apply for credit transfer. If the learners have successfully completed unit/s that have identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. If upon successful application learners will be granted, Credit Transfer of the unit/s and are not required to enroll or undertake the unit. This will appear on their Statement of Results or Statement of Attainment as a CT and CT may reduce the course duration as well.
